Ich habe noch nie Buch nach 1/3 der Lektüre einfach in den Müll geworfen. Bei diesem Machwerk habe ich es mit freuden dem Abfall zugeführt. Was für ein Schund nicht mal in Ansätzen lustig wie der Vorgänger und stellenweise einfach nur widerlicher Schund.
Was soll man sagen? Niven hat absolut alle Register gezogen. Wunderbar.
Ziemlich genial. Trashig - ja, natürlich. Allein das Sujet verlangt danach. Was sich in der morbiden, geldgierigen, oberflächlichen, menschenverachtenden Welt des Popbusiness abspielt, kann beim besten Willen nicht in schönen Worten wiedergegeben werden. Zumindest nicht authentisch. Also, trash as trash can. Wie Niven die Geldgier der biederen US-Normalos mit Genuss vorführt, wie er die unlauteren Methoden der Plattenfirmen (jetzt Download-Plattormen) gegenüber ihrer kreativen Partner - der Künstler - schamlos offenlegt, das ist schon großes, groteskes Theater. Die gesamte verkorkste Bio Michael Jacksons, erzählt anhand eines nur rudimentär chiffrierten 'Lucius Du Pre', mit all seinen irrwitzigen Auswüchsen, in einem Buch als Basis für eine Story zu nehmen, ist ein sicherlich grenzwertiger, aber durchaus legitimer Ansatz. Unerschütterlichen Jackson-Hardcore-Fans sei das Buch als Bettlektüre wärmstens NICHT ans Herz gelegt. Allen anderen jedoch schon. John Niven hat die absurde Realität des Pop-Business bestensfalls ein wenig überspitzt.
One of his best works - hilarious yet poignant. He just gets better with age - one of world's best modern writers.
Nicht sein bestes aber auch nicht sein schlechtestes Werk. Ich hatte meinen Spass und schau mal wie die deutsche Ãœbersetzung gelungen ist.
